National Association for Women’s Action in Development (NAWAD) is a voluntary, non-governmental women’s-led organization based in Uganda, focused on the intersection of gender equality, agriculture, environmental justice, economic empowerment, and community development. NAWAD was legally registered in 2010 and is dedicated to empowering women and girls to achieve social, economic, and environmental justice through capacity building, research, advocacy, and service provision. NAWAD Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Board number is INDP78772539NB, and required by the Laws of Uganda, NAWAD was also registered with the Registrar of Companies, Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) (80020003401241).
Our Key Priorities and How We Do It
NAWAD’s programmes focus on two core thematic areas: Agriculture and Women’s Economic Empowerment, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Climate and social justice, with particular attention to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), are integrated across both areas. These programmes advance NAWAD’s vision of a society where women and girls enjoy social, economic and environmental justice by promoting inclusive agricultural opportunities, economic empowerment, access to quality SRHR services, and freedom from violence. These efforts enable women and girls to live with dignity, exercise their rights and participate fully in society without stigma or discrimination.
Board of Directors
NAWAD has a General Assembly constituting of the members of the Association who have fully paid up their registration and subscription fees. The General Assembly is convened once every year at a date, place and time as may be determined by the Board. There is a Board of Directors constituting of elected members by the General Assembly. The Board is the supreme governing body of the Association, oversees the Association and acts as a guardian to the Association with whom the assets and property of the Association are entrusted. The Board of Directors currently is comprised of the following; The Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and members. A member is co-opted as is deemed necessary by the Board.
